The County Fire Coordinators are dispatched when 3 or more fire companies are dispatched to a fire or other incident. Their function is to coordinate fire coverage for those municipalities whose fire companies have been dispatched to an incident. They will assign other companies to stand by with apparatus at the fire stations of the companies that have responded to the incident. In the case of a major incident where numerous fire companies are needed, they will determine where the resources will come from so as not to drain any specific area of all of its apparatus in the event that there is another incident. There is one coordinator for each county fire zone and a chief coordinator. They are all ex volunteer fire chiefs and are elected to their positions.
