Special Area 3 is a region of east-central Alberta, similar to a county, but with no local government; it is run by the Special Affairs Board in the capital city of Edmonton. It is bordered by Paintearth County, Special Area 4, and the Regional Municipality of Antelope Park (in Saskatchewan) to the north; Special Area 2 and Newell County to the west; Cypress County and the Regional Municipality of Deer Forks (in Saskatchewan) to the south; and the Municipal District of Acadia, the Regional Municipality of Milton (in Saskatchewan), and the Regional Municipality of Chesterfield (in Saskatchewan) to the east.
