In accordance with the Department of Defense's 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Committee, all of its aircraft have been allocated to other units within the United States Air Force. The 178th FW is a flying training organization falling under the joint command of the Air National Guard and the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The 178th FW is currently training pilots of the Royal Netherlands Air Force 306th Squadron through 2010 in an agreement between the United States and the Netherlands.

As of October 2009, five classes of Dutch pilots have graduated the nine-month training program. The program is set to end in 2010, however, negotations are underway to extend the contract. The Republic or Singapore Air Force is also anticipated to being training at Springfield within the next several years.
