EMS Zones

Zone 1 - The Albany city line to Route 155 (McKownville, North Bethlehem, portions of Westmere)
Zone 2 - The intersection of Carman Rd and Route 20 till the intersection of Route 20 and Route 158. It also covers Carman Rd. until the Rotterdam Townline and all roads running off of it. Zone 2 also includes portions of the Pine Bush as well as Interstate 90 East/West. (Fort Hunter, Guilderland, and Altamont.)
Zone 3 - The intersection of Route 20 and Route 155 west until Route 20 and Carman Rd. Zone 3 also covers Route 146 until School Rd, Frenchs Mill Rd. to the railroad bridge on both sides. It covers Stone Rd. to Depot Rd, and the length of Grant Hill Rd. till the Voorheesville Townline. (Guilderland, Westmere, Guilderland Center)
Zone 4 - Village of Altamont, Town of Knox, Guilderland Center till School Rd. and Route 158 till the Guilderland/Schenectady county line on Route 20. (Knox, Altamont, Guilderland Center, and Pine Grove)


Services

Town of Guilderland EMS

The Town of Guidlerland EMS is a municipal EMS service providing paramedic (ALS) level emergency medicine to the Town of Guilderland (including the village of Altamont and the portion of SUNY Albany within the town) as well as the Town of Knox. The department consists of a combined 45 EMT's and Paramedics. The Town of Guilderland EMS has seven ALS equipped ambulances in its fleet with an additional six ALS Flycar's.

The Town EMS System is comprised of four zones; Zone 1 through Zone 4, all-encompassing the Town of Guilderland. The Town of Knox is considered Zone 4 as well. The Town of Guilderland EMS staffs 4 ALS ambulances from 0600-1800, 3 ALS ambulances from 1800-0600, and 1 ALS ambulance from 1200-0000 (Peak hours). In addition, a Paramedic Supervisor is staffed in a ALS flycar 24 hours a day.

Altamont Rescue Squad

Altamont Rescue Squad was a combination volunteer and professional BLS level ambulance service which operated from 1937 through 2023. At the time, it was the oldest operating volunteer rescue squad in New York State. Altamont Rescue Squad terminated operations in December of 2023 and Guilderland EMS assumed control of the coverage area.

Altamont Rescue Squad previously covered the old EMS Zone 3 (Now Guilderland EMS Zone 4), the Town of Knox, and provided backup coverage into Zones 1 and 2. Altamont Rescue's Albany County station number was 50, which it shared with Altamont Fair EMS, despite being a separate service. Their station was located at 767 State Route 146 (aka Main St.) between Arlington St. & Gun Club Rd., Altamont.

Western Turnpike Rescue Squad

Western Turnpike was a professional BLS level ambulance service which operated from 1939 to 2018. Western Turnpike's Albany County station number was 57. Western Turnpike terminated operations in 2018 and Guilderland EMS assumed control of the coverage area and stations #1 and #2.

Five Quad Volunteer Ambulance Service

Dispatched on the Albany County P25 System
Five Quad is a volunteer, student operated BLS ambulance service that covers the campus of SUNY Albany. The SECFCU arena, gymnasiums, football field, and Indigenous Quad are located within the town of Guilderland. Five Quad remains in service throughout the school year, and provides regular backup to the Town of Guilderland and City of Albany. Their station is located on the corner of Fuller Rd and Alumni Dr. Paramedic support to call locations within the town of Guilderland on campus is provided by the Town of Guilderland EMS. The remainder of campus is located in the City of Albany, and paramedic support is provided by the Albany Fire Department with Engine 10 and Truck 3 being first due for all ALS medical calls.

Altamont Fair EMS

Altamont Fair EMS is a small service activated only for special events at the Altamont Fair Grounds. While the agency prefix used is 50, Altamont Fair EMS is a separate and distinct service from the former Altamont Rescue Squad.

NBFD is a town fire department that provides BLS first response to the North Bethlehem fire district. NBFD also operates an incident rehabilitation unit, providing portable structures complete with heating, cooling, and electricity.

Altamont Fair Communications

The Altamont Fair is hosted yearly at the Altamont Fairgrounds. The fair receives yearly support from the Guilderland Police Department with traffic enforcement, fairground patrol, etc. The fair uses the Albany County P25 System interoperability channels 3, 5 and 7 for communications. These channels are used for traffic enforcement, fairground ops to police, and fairground ops in general. These channels are only used by the Altamont Fair when it is in session and is returned to use for other events/special details.
