Burlington Fire Department

The Burlington Fire Department staffs 5 stations on a 48/96 schedule. The staffed apparatus are listed below:

South Burlington Fire Department

The South Burlington Fire Department staffs 2 stations on a 24/48 schedule. The staffed apparatus are listed below:

Vermont Air National Guard Fire Department

The Vermont Air National Guard (VTANG) Fire Department is staffed by civilian state employees on a 24/48 schedule and by members of the Air National Guard during quarterly drill. VTANG Fire serves the Air National Guard Base and the Burlington International Airport in addition to the north district of the city of South Burlington. VTANG also responds mutual aid to other jurisdictions in Chittenden County for structural firefighting incidents, vehicle extrication, "tanker task force" callouts, technical rescue incidents, and any incident involving a downed aircraft. Williston Fire Department

The Williston Fire Department is staffed by full-time firefighters on a 24/48 schedule and by part-time call-staff members when needed (large/multiple incidents or to cover full-timer leave). The staffed apparatus are listed below:

Chittenden County Police

Municipal Police Departments

Most municipal police departments in Chittenden County are P25 encrypted and cannot be heard. These are the exceptions:

  • Hinesburg Police Department
    • Occasionally can be heard on the VSP Williston channel (M20xx units). Most traffic is done over the Shelburne PD channel, which is encrypted.
  • Richmond Police Department
    • M514 operates on the VSP Williston channel during business hours. Coverage outside those times is provided by Hinesburg PD or VSP Williston.

University of Vermont Police

The University of Vermont PD operates on a P25 encrypted channel, like other county departments. This includes sworn officers and non-sworn service officers. All other campus operations, including parking enforcement, are done on the UVM MotoTRBO system.

Sheriff's Office

The Chittenden County Sheriff's Office primarily serves as court security, traffic enforcement, and evictions for the county. They have recently begun providing contracted security details for some buildings, such as the City Market parking garage in Burlington and Hannafords supermarkets, where they also perform faux-loss prevention duties as well. Most traffic is P25 encrypted, although some units (primarily traffic enforcement) transmit on the clear analog channel. The Sheriff's office is staffed during business hours and handles "dispatching" during that time. Outside of business hours, Winooski PD "dispatches" sheriff units on the P25E channel.

Vermont State Police

The Vermont State Police Williston barracks provides primary law enforcement coverage to Interstates 89 and 189 as well as the towns of Bolton, Buels Gore, Charlotte, Huntington, Jericho, St. George, Underhill, and Westford in Chittenden County. Troopers are on "on-call" status from their residences between 2:00AM and 6:00AM each morning. VSP Williston will assist local agencies as needed, especially with special investigations/operations. The state-wide law enforcement interop channel is "State 2".

Other Agencies in Chittenden County

Colchester Technical Rescue

Colchester Technical Rescue provides water, ice, and technical rescue services (high/low angle rope rescue, trail carry-outs, etc.) to the Chittenden County area. Colchester Tech is primarily dispatched via cell phone notification and use the operations channel of the agency they are assisting, but do have a VHF operations channel that can be used on scene (158.8200, 114.8PL). The garage located at 687 Blakely Rd, Colchester, VT 05446, houses the following vehicles:

Vermont Hazardous Materials Response Team

The Vermont Hazardous Materials Response Team responds to medium and large scale hazardous materials incidents across the state to assist local agencies with hazard mitigation and cleanup. VTHMRT apparatus will sign on responding with the nearest VSP barracks. Individual members may also sign on using their callsigns, with the chief being "2200" and others following behind. All scene operations are done using the operations channel of the agency they are assisting. VTHMRT stages apparatus and trailers across the state, with the majority being at the VTRANS complex located at 189 Troy Ave, Colchester, VT 05446:

Vermont Urban Search and Rescue

The Vermont Urban Search and Rescue (USAR VT-TF1) team provides advanced technical search and rescue capabilities to victims trapped or entombed in structurally damaged buildings. VT-TF1 is a Type IV USAR asset capable of deploying an Incident Management Team immediately with technical rescue expertise and specialized equipment to meet the IC needs. With the capability of deploying within two hours of request with a 35 person Type IV USAR team capable of operating in 12 hour operational periods for up to 72 hours. VT-TF1 will deploy throughout the nation to assist with large scale disasters. VT-TF1 stages its equipment with VTHMRT at the VTRANS complex in Colchester, which includes numerous vehicles, equipment trailers, and boats.
