Hamvention History
Hamvention began in 1952 as the Southwestern Ohio Ham-vention at the Biltmore Hotel in Dayton, Ohio. From its inception it has been sponsored by the Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA). Organizers determined that April was the optimum time to hold it. However, the very next year the Biltmore Hotel was not available to it was held in March, it was at this time it was re-branded as the Dayton Hamvention. In 1964 it was moved to Hara Arena where it was held every year until the closure of Hara in 2016.
In 2017 Hamvention was moved to the Greene County Fairgrounds in Xenia.
Radio Usage
Whenever 20,000 hams get together, there is going to be overwhelming radio usage. DARA along with contracted service such as Merchants Security utilize radios to conduct operations at Hamvention. This Wiki is where frequencies and other information should be placed for quick reference.
