MPSCS Paging
In 2021, Ingham County moved to the MPSCS. Since then, analog paging is 100% discontinued on the old 460.6 MHz system. Analog paging still seems to remain on VHF in Delta Township and possibly in the southern areas of the county. Several other VHF licenses, and the license for the old Harris trunking and analog fire/EMS paging system is still active. However, most of that infrastructure has been decommissioned or at least unplugged. Ingham County has migrated to 800 MHz paging, using Unication pagers and a lot of the programming is done by department members and volunteers. Most departments/stations have proprietary paging talkgroups, many of which are multicast over 33INGFIRE or 33METFIRE. Paging is easy to identify since dispatchers broadcast beeping or alarm tones over the talkgroup at the beginning of fire or EMS pages. Ingham County probably should have moved paging to use their large fixed-base VHF system they use for weather sirens, instead of expensive, breakable (yet very cool) Unication pagers, but that's a whole 'nother topic...
MPSCS Talkgroups
There are 2 main dispatch talkgroups for Fire/EMS in Ingham County. 33INGFIRE dispatches all out-county fire and EMS, and 33METFIRE dispatches Lansing and East Lansing fire/EMS. Out county pages are multicast over each station's own proprietary paging talkgroups. 33INGFIRE and 33METFIRE are not dispatch only, they are also used for main operations such as communication between public safety personnel and dispatch as well as coordination. There also appears to be some EMS operations on a couple DMR systems. When it comes to fireground channels, they use the MPSCS as well and have 8 fireground channels. Fireground channels are also accessible by dispatchers, who frequently monitor them and interact with command personnel on-scene. When it comes to hospital coordination with EMS, most Ingham/Clinton/Eaton hospitals do still monitor MEDCOM and HEARN, but primarily use the TRIMED channels on the MPSCS, although occasional HEARN activity is still heard. All ambulances do still have HEARN and MEDCOM capability as required by state law.
