MotoTRBO Cap+ Amateur System
From The RadioReference Wiki
Welcome to the MotoTRBO CAP+ Amateur Radio collaboration article. This Capacity Plus system is located across multiple different counties in southern Ontario. Established in December of 2021 with the first site being located in Niagara Falls Ontario, this system plans to grow and provide a wide range of coverage and talkgroups to those who wish to use it.
Now you may be asking yourself "Why did the system administrators plan on going with Motorola MotoTRBO Capacity Plus"... The simple answer is right in the name... Higher capacity limits. On a conventional DMR system, you are limited to two timeslots resulting in only 2 talkgroups (Channels) being able to communicate at a time. With MotoTRBO Capacity Plus, each site can have up to 16 different talkgroups (Channels) active at one time.
On top of capacity increase, operators will not have to choose to try to find what timeslot is free to use. The system will automatically assign the next available timeslot to the next requested talkgroup. Now how do you know what's going to linked throughout repeaters? Well compared to conventional, Capacity Plus allows us to link talkgroups instead of timeslots.
Though this system is operating in full encryption as of 12/25/2021, the system does have plans to be open to the amateur radio community once testing has been completed. We have been currently approved to put repeaters up at the follow 4 different districts:
- Fort Erie
- Niagara Falls
- Jordan Station
- Hamilton
We also have what we are calling the "Rapid Deployment" site. This site will change locations multiple times a year as these are portable repeaters. These repeaters will allow us to deploy at any location for special events, training exercises or even actual emergencies. The best part is, these repeater can be linked into the system by either internet or RF. The benefits of this is that we will not take up 2-4 timeslots on a specific site for an event within the a certain county.
