New York State Region 1 HELP Trucks
Information
NYSDOT Region 1 - Albany (Capital District):
The NYSDOT Region One HELP program was launched in December 1998 with 1 vehicle patrolling 42 directional miles, expanded in 1999 to 2 vehicles patrolling 90 directional miles, and has expanded today to four vehicles and almost 120 directional miles of highway patrolling. Capital Region HELP trucks are dispatched from the Capital Region Transportation Management Center (TMC), a facility co-located by NYSDOT and the New York State Police in Laham. Through cooperative efforts with the Thruway Authority, in June of 2006, a DOT HELP truck was added to patrol the NY State Thruway between Interchange 23 in Albany and Interchange 25 in Schenectady. The Capital Region HELP trucks are equipped with Mobile Data Terminals connected to the Hudson Valley TMC Computer-Aided Dispatch system.
Each HELP vehicle patrols a specific segment of the roadway called a "sector", the combination of one or more sectors creating a "beat". There are four beats in Region 1 that patrol sections of I-90, Route 787/I-787, I-87, Alternate Route 7, Thruway I-87, Thruway I-90, I-890
