News

According to a report by Region 8 News dated January 13, 2023, Sheriff Shane Russell explains that the upgrade will involve transitioning the current radio system to a digital format. The challenging terrain of the Sharp County hills has made communication difficult for the department using the existing system. The upgrade, made possible through the American Rescue Act, will address this issue and improve their ability to respond to calls. The planned upgrades include:

  • Seven new repeaters
  • Two new radios for dispatch
  • Seven new consoles for dispatch
  • Two generators

The total cost for these enhancements is estimated at $120,000. The switch to digital technology is expected to enhance communication reliability and efficiency for the Sharp County Sheriff’s Department. These upgrades were expected to be completed by March 1, 2023.
