“The first phase is to purchase core components to replace current regional 800 Mhz public safety radio system which will reach end of life in 2020. The new equipment will provide improved communication capabilities and resources for public safety responders. This includes replacement of basic radio system infrastructure and upgrades to radio tower sites. There are no replacement radios included in this proposal as a phased migration allows users to replace radios not compatible with P25.” (From the City’s info PDF)

Information

This is the Coastal Bend Regional Interoperability Network, which is administered by the Coastal Bend Council of Governments. Harris Radio, Inc. won the contract for this system, and it will fully support Phase II TDMA modulation. This Project 25 TRS, will replace the older legacy radio systems that are currently in place. When finished in late 2022, this system will not only cover the following counties, but all public safety first responders on this system will be able to communicate on other neighboring Project 25 trunking systems:

  • Aransas
  • Bee
  • Brooks
  • Duval
  • Jim Wells
  • Kenedy
  • Live Oak
  • McMulen
  • Nueces
  • Refugio
  • San Patricio

This system will be setup for registered users to easily roam between all towers without making any adjustments to their radios. Towers are being brought online as time progresses.
