Forestry 1 Radio Number - North Carolina Forest Service ( County Ranger, District 2 )

All Watauga County Fire Departments ( with the exception of Boone FD and Blowing Rock F&R ) are dispatched on the county fire channel, then will switch to a tac/direct channel once on scene designated by the Incident Commander.

Radio Frequency Information

  • Appalachian State Univ. Police uses VIPER for full time dispatch and their daily communications. The on campus communications center is known as "App State" or "ASU" on the radio. Statewide and Watauga County VIPER talk-groups and used during special events ( football games, concerts, etc. ) and many outside and surrounding agencies assist them during these type of large events.
  • Town of Blowing Rock has their own communications center known as "Blowing Rock" on the radio, for police operations only. Blowing Rock Fire & Rescue is dispatched by Watauga County's communications center.
  • Boone Police full time on VIPER, uses VHF as backup.
