Pro-2004
From The RadioReference Wiki
The Pro-2004 was the first full range scanner going up to 1300 MHz, and had 5 12.5, and 50 kHz spacing as sold. The radio sold is not the radio that was marketed or documented in the technical data. The radio came out in a strange time due to new government regulations. The advertised 25-512 and 760-1300 MHz frequency ranges were changed to 25-520, 760-823.945, 851-868-945, and 896-1300 MHz due to the now blocked cell phone bands being removed. The stock scan speeds were ~8 ch/sec in slow mode and ~16 ch/sec in fast mode.
I am not sure why, but the 2004 was in reality a neutered future Pro 2005, and can easily be changed into a Pro 2005 with the advertised frequency ranges. The following instructions explain how to modify the scanner :
Remove the 4 screws on the rear of the radio holding the outer metal cover on. Slide the metal cover back from the face of the scanner. Turn it over and you will see a metal cover in the center of the scanner. Work the cover off (it just snaps off). With the cover off, you will see a long chip (the CPU) on the left side. On the right you will see a line of diodes (note - the lettering will be upside down and all positions will take this into account). I found it easier to remove the 5 colored wired connectors (they just pull out of the sockets). Now remove the 7 screws that hold board PC-3 into the scanner. Locate diode D513 (this is the cell mod diode). Unsolder (do not clip the leads as this diode will be used later) and remove diode D513. Now the scanner has the advertised 25-512 MHz range and 760-1300 MHz range and added 30 kHz spacing on 825-844.995 and 870-889.995. Now take that diode and install in in the unmarked D510 spot (count down from marked diodes) it will be the closest to the back of the scanner in the diode line. The can part of the diode should be to the right and the wire side to the left (toward CPU). You have now just unlocked +100 channels and made this scanner the same as a Pro 2005. Now that you have made the Pro 2004 into a Pro 2005 let’s make it more like a Pro 2006. There is one more easy mod if you have a 2nd of the same diode and add it to the unmarked D514 spot. This spot will be between the marked D515 and marked D513 spots (again can side to the and right wire side to the left). You have now added about 25% faster scanning speed making the scanner ~10 ch/sec on slow and ~20 ch/sec on fast vs the Pro2006 ~13 ch/sec on slow and ~26 ch/sec on fast.
While these are not the only mods that can be done, they are the easiest and make the Pro 2004 into a Pro 2005 and almost a Pro 2006
