Introduction

Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio is a facility of the United States Air Force located at 39.798708, -84.083988 in Greene and Montgomery Counties in southwestern Ohio. It is located 8 Miles northeast of the central business district of Dayton, Ohio. It is named in honor of local aviation pioneers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, and Lt. Frank Patterson who was killed at Wright Field in 1918 during a flight test.

445th Airlift Wing

The 455th Airlift Wing is the only flying wing stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB. It is manned by the United States Air Force Reserves.

The 89th AS/445th AW received their ninth and final C-17A on February 12, 2012. The last of their 10 C-5As was officially transferred in April 2012.

Along with separate support units that report directly to the Wing Commander. The present unit strength is approximately 300 officers and 1,850 enlisted troops. Most 445th Airlift Wing members are traditional reservists who serve in the military on a part-time basis, taking time out from their families and civilian jobs to participate a minimum of one weekend a month as well as two-weeks of annual training each year. Augmenting the traditional reserve force is a team of approximately 350 members employed full-time as air reserve technicians in the unit.
