The following is known about Public Safety Communications Systems in the affected areas.

Louisiana

  • NOPD's Wide Area EDACS ProVoice system is now up and operational. The system survived the initial hurricane, but subsequent flooding had knocked out generators, however the generators have been brought back online.
  • The Jefferson Parish APCO25 Smartzone system is currently down. The 350ft self supporting tower was knocked down during the storm. ITAC1 is being used for the East bank and ITAC3 for the West bank comms. Currently operating all the comms from the Galeria building at I-10 and Causeway Blvd. The Jefferson Parish analog system went down after the storm. Fire and EMS were operating on FG1 and FG4. The main site on the Westbank came back up, but the Galleria site is down with resulting poor portable coverage on the Eastbank.
  • St Tammany Parish's EDACS ProVoice system is currently back UP and operational.
  • Most sites for the Lousisiana State Smartzone system are operational, however reports indicate that the North Shore Smartzone sites are currently down. Communications are occuring on the Smartzone system in the New Orleans Metro Area.
