  • UPDATE: As of 8/1/13, Lyon County Sheriff Dispatch is P25 digital, with a NAC of 67.
  • As of early 2022, Lyon County Ambulance is now paged on 154.160 (county fire) due to problems with the microwave transmission of dispatch communications and paging from the emergency center to the transmitter on the east water tower. Lyon County now only rarely uses EMS frequencies 155.400 and 155.340. Also, most ambulance-to-hospital communications are now via mobile phone, not over the radio.

Scanning Ambulance Communications In Lyon County

In Lyon County, the Lyon County Ambulance is paged on 154.160 / 127.3 PL (as of early 2022 -- they used to be paged on 155.400).

The ambulances talk to the only hospital in the county -- Merrill Pioneer Hospital Avera (in Rock Rapids -- called "Avera Rock Rapids" on the radio) -- on 154.160 as well. (They used to use 155.340, but I don't hear that much anymore.)

When talking on their EMS frequencies, 155.400 or 154.340, the Lyon County Ambulance, Lyon County Dispatch, and Avera Rock Rapids use 82.5 PL, some others use 210.7 PL -- but all on 155.340. As far as I can tell, no one uses CSQ. The callsign WRA644 is correct for Lyon Co. dispatch on both 155.400 and 155.340.

(In the counties to the south and east, 155.400 / 82.5 PL is used for ambulance to hospital communication and communication with their dispatch is either on that frequency or on fire frequencies. If these ambulances come through Lyon county they may contact Lyon County Dispatch on this frequency. Since it's not used much for two-way communication in the county it usually takes dispatch a moment or two to find the right channel.)

The names are a little confusing too as "Regional EMS" is used in the surrounding Iowa counties, but "Statewide EMS" is used also in MN and SD!
