Member of the East-West Gateway, Council of Governments (EWG-COG) that serves 4000 sq.mi. including the city of St. Louis and Franklin, Jefferson, St. Charles, and St. Louis counties in Missouri and Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair counties in Illinois. The Board of Directors has the responsibility of selecting the road, bridge and transit projects in the region that will receive federal funds.

Metro East Emergency Response Team] (MEERT) WEB

Team consists of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System and the Department of Homeland Security. It's primary purpose is to provide security at National Pharmaceutical Stockpile distribution sites, but it is also capable of responding to civil disorder, natural and man-made disasters and other crisis situations. The team also has an agreement to assist law enforcement agencies throughout the state and the U.S. as needed.

Has an emergency communications trailer with an ITECS-8 Emergency Communications system. The trailer has radio equipment for VHF, UHF, 800 MHz, Satellite Comms, and Internet access.


Metro East Auto Theft Task Force] (MEATTF) WEB

  • MEATTF serves Madison and St. Clair counties, covering total of 1,389 square miles.

Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis WEB

  • Became operational in 1965 and serves both the Missouri and Illinois greater St. Louis metropolitan area. There are currently eight counties from Illinois participating in this highly skilled and successful unit. Those counties include: Madison, St. Clair, Monroe, Jersey, Macoupin, Bond, Randolph, and Clinton [along with 6 counties in MO (St. Louis City & County, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, Jefferson]. The MCS investigates the most heinous crimes, primarily homicides, but will activate for other serious crimes. An activation will typically saturate an investigation with 15-20 detectives within the first 24 hours. The MCS boasts an impressive 80% clearance rate and has been nationally and internationally recognized by the FBI National Academy and the International Homicide Investigators’ Association

St. Clair County Regional Special Response Team (SRT)

  • A part-time tactical team comprised of officers from Belleville Police, St. Clair County Sheriff, Millstadt Police, and the Swansea Police. The Team conducts semi-monthly training in the following areas:

· Firearms proficiency and less lethal munitions · Tactical operations and communications · Hostage response training · Search warrant service and execution · Defensive tactics · Response to barricaded subjects · Proficient use of surveillance robots and the Bearcat Armored Vehicle

SRT works closely with the St. Clair County Drug Tactical Unit (DTU) in response to search warrants associated with narcotics and other drug investigations. Additionally, SRT provides mutual aid assistance to the Region 8 ILEAS Teams.

St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD)

Created in 1981, provides and manages transportation services for the fifteen townships that make up the District: Belleville, Canteen, Caseyville, Centreville, East St. Louis, Engelmann, Lebanon, Mascoutah, O’Fallon, St. Clair, Shiloh Valley, Smithon, Stites, Stookey, Sugarloaf. MAP

  • Collects a .75 percent sales tax within the District for the purpose of providing public transportation and connecting facilities like MetroBikeLink within the District. St. Clair County’s local investment of $339 million delivers access to a $1 billion transit system including MetroLink, MetroBus, Paratransit Alternative Transportation Service (ATS) and MetroBikeLink.   • 8/23 - Proposal (from Board Meaning) Mr. Sharkey reported he met with Monroe Randolph Transit District. He advised MRTD has a proposal to operate 3 fixed routes from their Counties to the SWIC, new hospitals and dialysis centers in St. Clair County He continue by saying they propose to pick up residents in the 6 southern St. Clair County townships not served by SCCTD. He further reported he will ask MRTD to submit a formal plan for SCCTD Board Consideration later this summer. He added he also met with Bill Grogan to discuss MRTD plan for conformity with state regulations.
