Wichita Falls Public Works NEXEDGE

The city of Wichita Falls has moved all non-public safety departments, except Transit, from their four VHF simplex channels and one UHF repeater to six NEXEDGE (NXDN 9600 bps) conventional repeater frequencies at multiple sites. Here is the City Council Resolution to purchase the equipment. Four of the frequency pairs were used by the police and fire departments before they moved to the 800 MHz EDACS trunked system.

Here is the channel lineup as heard so far:
- 453.1625 - Parks & Recreation, Traffic Engineering
- 453.9000 - Animal Control
- 460.2750 - Water Customer Service
- 460.3500 - Sanitation
- 460.6000 - Engineering, Street
- 460.6250 - Water Utilities

Simplex operation on the repeater outputs has been heard but it is not known if the old PD simplex channels (460.225, 460.325 and 460.475) are used.

As of 12/21/2012 the VHF channels (153.590, 154.025, 155.760 and 158.760) appear to be silent. The licenses have been modified for narrow FM and digital emissions so it is not known if these frequencies will be used for anything in the future.

Wichita County Fire Departments

The three county fire repeaters (151.4975, 155.5650, 155.8200) are linked together for countywide coverage. All departments outside of Wichita Falls, except Burkburnett, are dispatched on the repeater simulcast system, and will move to their onscene simplex frequency or statewide interop channels within 20 minutes of initial dispatch. Department pagers are programmed with the nearest repeater to their territory.
