Capturing Live Audio

It has been reported that the majority of current BCD396XT models have a stereo output jack for headphones instead of the traditionally-found mono jack. This creates a peculiarity when capturing live audio with a computer because the volume level with the scanner will be about half of the expected volume level if you're using a mono capture cable. There are two ways that this can be addressed easily:

  • Stereo Input Cable - You can always use a stereo cable to connect the scanner to your capture device as long as your capture port is also stereo (Line In). You should not use this method if you're capturing with a mic port as the mic port is mono, not stereo.
  • Stereo to Mono Converter Plug - You can potentially use a stereo to mono adapter (such as this one) to convert the audio. You'll have to use this option if you're capturing with a mic port.
