General Information
Background
The City of Guelph Capacity+ System replaces the older analog UHF repeater system that was in place of the Public Works & Transit departments. For PW, one site at the Verney Water Tower, and another at Guelph General Hospital. For Transit, a site at 65 Speedvale Ave. PW had 3 conventional channels, 2 on repeaters, and Transit, 3 LTR PassPort channels. According to their RFP, the City wanted a more reliable two-way voice system with different channels for the different Works departments. The City also appears to have wanted to simplify their AVL service by pairing it to the new system.
Current
As of Late April 2015, the system is fully operational, with over 500 radios on the system. The older analog systems are no longer in use as the frequencies associated with them are currently in use with new system
Call signs
- Orange - Waste collection
- Black - Downtown maintainers
- Yellow - Winter maintenance leads
- Gold/Silver/Bronze - Waste resource innovation centre
For Plows, the last 3 numbers of the vehicle number are used as the call sign. Fun fact: there are two 314s.
Radio IDs
Radio IDs below 1000 are typically handheld radios.
Dispatch/base stations are in the 9900-9999 range.
Buses are above 64000.
All other vehicles (plows, pickups, vans, garbage trucks, by-law vehicles, etc.) are typically in the 10000-30000 range. The radio ID is usually the same as the number marked on the side/back of the vehicle.
