United States
In the United States the radio spectrum is managed by various agencies. See Basic Elements of Spectrum Management.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) assigns frequencies and issues licenses to non-federal radio spectrum users.
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration's Office of Spectrum Management manages the federal government’s use of the radio frequency spectrum. The Federal Government Spectrum Compendium contains information on federal spectrum uses from 225 MHz to 7.125 GHz.
The Interdepartment Radio Advisory Committee (IRAC) assigns frequencies to federal government users and maintains the Government Master File (GMF) database of federal frequencies and users. The GMF is not available to the public.
The Federal Aviation Administration's Spectrum Engineering secures, manages, and protects all civil aviation radio frequency spectrum resources.
The FCC rules and regulations are contained in the Code of Federal Regulations Title 47 Telecommunication.
The NTIA rules and regulations are contained in the NTIA Manual of Regulations and Procedures for Federal Radio Frequency Management (Redbook).
