  • Illinois is a tech-savvy state that is home to Chicago and Springfield, as well as sprawling farmlands that cover nearly three-quarters of the state. Illinois first responders support the almost 12.9 million people who call Illinois home, providing services for large events like the annual Illinois State Fair, University of Illinois football games, and the Chicago Marathon. They must also contend with the state’s harsh weather and natural disasters that range from ice storms to tornadoes to flooding.
  • FirstNet covers the entire state with FirstNet, Built with AT&T – helping to connect public safety agencies and organizations in more than 340 communities across Illinois. That's why we're focused on increasing network capacity for Illinois public safety by deploying Band 14 spectrum – nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the federal government specifically for FirstNet. We've rolled out Band 14 across Illinois to provide public safety with truly dedicated coverage and capacity when they need it. Areas currently benefitting from Band 14 include Adams County, Alton, Aurora, Bloomington-Normal, Bureau County, Champaign-Urbana, Chicago, Clay County, Decatur, Elgin, Granite City, Jo Daviess County, Joliet, Kankakee, Mason County, Mercer County, Montgomery County, Peoria, Quad Cities, Rockford, Springfield, Vermilion County and Washington County.

And more Illinois first responders are gaining access to a one-of-a-kind 5G experience on FirstNet. Public safety also has access to 5G+ (mmWave) spectrum in Chicago at the United Center, O'Hare Airport and Midway Airport. And we're continuing to roll out additional 5G connectivity for FirstNet in more communities nationwide. Article (3/25/22 AT&T on FirstNet and Interoperability (3/4/21)

  • The St. Louis District is responsible for maintaining the waterways that flow through a large part of Eastern MO and Southwestern IL. Located within the District’s boundaries are 300 miles of the Mississippi River, including its four most southerly Lock and Dams and its confluences with the Missouri and Illinois Rivers. Also included are several tributary rivers, dozens of other small streams, and five multi-purpose reservoirs - Lake Shelbyville, Carlyle Lake, Rend Lake, Mark Twain Lake, and Lake Wappapello. These waterways must continually be monitored and regulated to facilitate a number of purposes.

  • 3/24 - Missouri Central School Bus said it's ending its contract with the Saint Louis Public Schools (19,600 students) on June 30, resulting in the closure of two St. Louis-area locations and lay off of hundreds of workers. MCSB will be closing its locations at 3645 Gratiot St. and 8000 Hall St. in St. Louis, the letter stated.

The company said the permanent closing and layoffs at the two St. Louis locations will begin on or about May 24 and continue through the completion of its service ending on or about July 15, affecting about 332 full-time and part-time employees.

SLPS officials said in a press release late Monday that its contract with MCSB was supposed to run through the 2024-2025 school year, but the bus company is exercising a clause to terminate the contract. AP Article
